As a community, we all play a role in keeping our Aquatics Centre safe, clean, and open for use. One of the most important ways we can do that is by helping to prevent pool contaminations.
Here’s how you can help:
- Shower before swimming – This removes oils, lotions, and bacteria that affect water quality.
- Stay out of the pool if you’re feeling unwell, especially with gastrointestinal symptoms.
- Children who are not fully toilet trained must wear swim diapers and proper waterproof covers.
- Take regular bathroom breaks for young swimmers.
Why it matters:
A single contamination incident (such as fecal matter in the pool) triggers an immediate shutdown of the affected area. This can result in:
- 4 to 24 hours of downtime, depending on severity
- Extensive cleaning and chemical treatment
- Disruption to scheduled programs and member access
Thank you for doing your part to keep the pool clean, safe, and enjoyable for everyone. If you have any questions about pool readiness or best practices, our lifeguards are happy to help!
